Hitching your
caravan up to your car and taking to the road
to head toward your favourite campsites in the
UK or across Europe is a great way to travel
affordably. There’s no need for expensive
hotel bills, your portable getaway is being
towed behind you after all. But while it can
seem a great option, a lack of good caravan
insurance could turn your dream into a
nightmare should anything go wrong. Caravan
insurance is a must have, and the RAC’s
policies could surprise you with their
affordability and added benefits.
One advantage when it comes
to RAC caravan insurance is the ability to
tailor your policy toward your specific needs,
saving you from paying for what you don’t
actually need. While these optional extras are
a great selling point, let’s first consider
what you will actually get as standard with
this insurance:
- Fully comprehensive cover.
There’s no choice as to a third
party insurance policy or a comprehensive
one, instead you will be forced to
comprehensively insure your caravan. This
might initially seem like a bind, but with
the policy covering public liability,
European cover, loss of use and more, you
are likely to find that it suits your needs
entirely.
- No claims discounts If
you haven’t claimed on your caravan
insurance then you could stand to save
significant quantities of money with this
no claims bonus. Combine it with a
voluntary excess and your policy could be
cheaper than you would initially expect.
- Caravan hire When
you’re not using your static caravan you
might rent it out to others. The good news
is that RAC caravan insurance will cover
you whether you are staying there or
not.
- Loss of use A caravan
damaged to the point of being unable to use
it could seriously destroy a great holiday.
You don’t need to worry about that with
this insurance policy however, as
alternative accommodation is included for
up to 14 days, up to a price of £75 per
day.
The standard insurance will
cover the majority of eventualities, keeping
you safe and secure in the event of a
catastrophe, but there are some additional
extras that you might like to add to your
policy. The option to pay for a new for old
clause, for example, could help you to feel
secure should the unthinkable happen. It should
be noted that this option does only cover
caravans that are up to 5 years old, but
anything older will be funded based on the
current market value.
Other options include cover
for your equipment and contents, protecting
everything within your caravan in the event of
fire, theft or flood. While these extras will
certainly add additional expense to your
policy, they are still worth considering for
the extra peace of mind that they will
generate. Don’t be afraid to ask the RAC for
quotes with and without them to help you to
make the right decision when it comes to your
caravan insurance.
